(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 16

The rematch I've been dreading throughout the entire season... a Week 16 game against the Buffalo Bills is something that could totally ruin my perfect season. Can I outlast Bruce Smith on defense and the QB Bills / Andre Reed / Thurman Thomas onslaught from the Bills offense?!

Contra: Legacy of War (PSX) Quick Look - Urban Warfare

This Quick Look video is all about a Contra game many of you probably have never played, and if you did play it, you probably hated it -- Contra: Legacy of War for the PSX.

This video showcases the first level of the game, "Urban Warfare," along with my crappy gameplay and a glitch where I get stuck underneath the ground during the boss fight.

Zone of the Enders (PS2) Quick Look - All Up in Jehuty's Codpiece

This time in my Quick Look series, I will be diving into the opening moments of Zone of the Enders for the Playstation 2. This game came out roughly six months after the PS2 launched and was one of my first games for the system. It is, however, an extremely short game, but it makes up for with its fun and fast-paced mecha action.

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 15

It's Week 15 of my perfect season run in Tecmo Super Bowl, and this week features a rematch between the New England Patriots and my Indianapolis Colts. Can I maintain my dominance over the Patriots, or are they going to ruin my season?

(Chasing Perfection) - Tecmo Super Bowl Week 14

I'm finally in the home-stretch of the regular season with a Week 14 match-up against the Cleveland Browns. Can I survive another week with my #1 ranked defense (and also dead last offense), or do I finally taste defeat at the hands of the Browns?!

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 13

In a Week 13 match-up, my Indianapolis Colts are taking on the Cheeseheads of Wisconsin. Can my #1 ranked defense cruise to victory over the Green Bay Packers, or will this be the last episode of the season?!

Notable Nostalgic Blu-ray Releases May 5th - May 11th 2013

This edition of NNBR features: Steve McQueen and a gaggle of POWs in The Great Escape, Morgan Freeman in the The Shawshank Redemption because... he's in everything, and a few Wise Guys in GoodFellas.

1.) The Great Escape (1963) | Blu-ray Release Date: May 7th, 2013

In 1943, the Germans opened Stalag Luft North, a maximum-security prisoner-of-war camp, designed to hold even the craftiest escape artists. In doing so, however, the Nazis unwittingly assembled the finest escape team in military history who worked on what became the largest prison breakout ever attempted. Based on a true story.

2.) The Shawshank Redemption (1994) | Blu-ray Release Date: May 7th, 2013

Framed for murder, upstanding banker Andy Dufresne begins a new life at Shawshank prison, where he slowly comes to be admired by the other inmates -- including an older lifer named Red -- for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.

3.) GoodFellas (1990) | Blu-ray Release Date: May 7th, 2013

From Nicholas Pileggi's true-life bestseller Wiseguy, GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie. Directed and co-written by Martin Scorsese, it was judged 1990's Best Picture by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics and named to the American Film Institute's Top-100 American Film List. Electrifying performances abound, and from a standout cast that includes Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco and Paul Sorvino. Joe Pesci walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award. It "bristles with passion, wit and style" and endures as "an American classic" (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone).

What man wouldn't want to wake up with a gun in his face?

What Dreams Are Made Of...

My article last week on was about the Sega Dreamcast -- click this link to check it out, but I wanted to post a picture that I took earlier of "what dreams are made of..."

The system was unique, but short-lived. Never let the dream die, let it live on to see another day. Take it out of the closest, dust it off, and let that oddly loud beep when you turn the Dreamcast on take you away to the not-so-distant past.

The Greatest GoldenEye Medley... EVER!

Being an article contributor on definitely has its perks, as I am networked with some of the greatest talent out there in the retro gaming community. One bright and shining example of the talent that is on comes not from one individual, but rather a freakin' band that has its own show on the site!

On Being Human
is an extremely talented and prolific band that features their video game inspired music via the show, "The Humans Are Coming," on, and they just happen to be one of the most creative bands in regards to translating video game medleys in new and refreshing ways. Their latest medley is based off of a game that seems to not get a lot of love from musicians, but is heavily regarded as one of the most ground-breaking games to ever be released -- I of course am referring to the one... the only... GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64!

Please, enjoy this GoldenEye medley from On Being Human, and be sure to: check out their show on, follow them on Twitter and Facebook, and subscribe to them on YouTube.

Kubbi - 2012 Singles

It's been awhile since I've talked music on the site, and I wanted to take a moment to look at the newest release from one of my favorite chiptune artists out there right now, Kubbi.

Something needs be said about Kubbi and his undying love for retro games that he displays so brilliantly on his recently released compilation album, 2012 Singles. I generally love musicians that can create a sense of atmospheric ambiance with something as simple as retro gaming bleeps and bloops, and Kubbi delivers exactly the right amount of it -- coupled with a fun polish to every song that makes you believe in this genre of music again.

If you go to his Bandcamp page, you can find downloads for his 2012 Singles album, along with other outstanding albums released by him in a convenient "pay-what-you-want" format. You can also find him on:

Oh, and as an added bonus for downloading the 2012 Singles album, you are presented with the bonus song, "PewPewPew," and the song adds that much more to the already great album. Go and download Kubbi's music already!

Glitched Tecmo Super Bowl Intro

I encountered this glitched Tecmo Super Bowl intro while I was attempting to record a game for my Chasing Perfection season, and I had to keep taking the game out of the NES and putting it back in ever-so-slightly to get it to work.

If you actually take the time to look at a lot of what's going on, you'll see some pretty cool things.

Tecmo Super Bowl - NFL Films

While uploading my latest Chasing Perfection episode, I came across this NFL Films documentary about Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES. It's pretty interesting to take a look at the world of competitive TSB play, and also hearing former NFL stars talking about being in the game, while newer NFL players talk about growing up playing the football classic.

Check it out for yourself!

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 12

My holiday vacation is now over from this site and retro gaming content, so it's time to get back in the swing of things with Week 12 of my run for perfection in Tecmo Super Bowl.

Week 12 features a match-up between my Indianapolis Colts (and the #1 defense in the league) and the Chicago Bears -- a very formidable opponent. Can I outlast the onslaught of rushing from Neal Anderson, or will he just leave me in the dust? Make sure to watch the conclusion, this one was a doozy.

Notable Nostalgic Blu-ray Releases Dec. 30th - Jan. 5th 2013

After having a nice holiday vacation from the site, I feel excited to get back to work and bring all of my visitors loads of new content. To ease back into things, we'll be taking a look at some of my personal classic movie favorites being released on Blu-ray (maybe not for the first time on Blu-ray).

Happy New Year!

1.) The Great Gatsby (1974) | Blu-ray Release Date: January 1st, 2013

Nick Carraway, a young Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby's circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.

2.) Clue (1985) | Blu-ray Release Date: January 1st, 2013

A group of oddball characters assemble at an old Victorian mansion to play a game of "whodunit."

3.) American Beauty (1999) | Blu-ray Release Date: January 1st, 2013

Lester Burnham's wife Carolyn, who's cheating on him, hates him, his daughter Jane regards him with contempt, and his boss is positioning him for the axe -- the typical suburban nightmare. When you've got nothing to lose, you might as well risk everything. Provoked by forbidden passions, Lester decides to make a few changes in his life that are less mid-life crisis than adolescence redux. The freer he gets, the happier he gets, which is even more maddening to wife and daughter alike. A pandora's box of fantasies as he begins to lust after his daughter's over-developed friend. But Lester Burnham is about to learn that the ultimate freedom comes at the ultimate price.

4.) Wayne's World (1992) | Blu-ray Release Date: January 1st, 2013

Based on the Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name, Wayne's World is about the adventures of two amiably aimless metal-head friends, Wayne and Garth. From Wayne's basement, the pair broadcast a talk-show called "Wayne's World" on local public access television. The show comes to the attention of a sleazy network executive who wants to produce a big-budget version — and he also wants Wayne's girlfriend, a rock singer named Cassandra. Wayne and Garth have to battle the executive not only to save their show, but also Cassandra.

5.) Wayne's World 2 (1993) | Blu-ray Release Date: January 1st, 2013

Everyone's favorite headbangers from Aurora, Illinois, are back in this sequel to the 1992 hit comedy Wayne's World. The success of their TV show allows Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) to finally move out of their parents' homes, but now they have to figure out what to do with their lives. Wayne's girlfriend, up-and-coming rock star Cassandra (Tia Carrere), is enjoying a career boost thanks to her new manager Bobby Cohn (Christopher Walker), but Garth thinks that Bobby is more interested in her body than her place on the charts. Meanwhile, Wayne is visited in a dream by the late Jim Morrison (Michael A. Nickles), who convinces him to promote a massive rock festival, "Waynestock," featuring Aerosmith as headliners. Garth, on the other hand, is finally relieved of his pesky virginity by femme fatale Honey Hornee (Kim Basinger), though it turns out that Honey has a hidden agenda. Drew Barrymore, Harry Shearer, and Charlton Heston play cameo roles in Wayne's World 2, and Jay Leno, Rip Taylor, and Todd Rundgren appear as themselves.
