Notable Nostalgic Blu-ray Releases Oct. 14th - Oct. 20th

1.) A League of Their Own (1992) | Blu-ray Release Date: October 16th, 2012

In a small town in Oregon, farm girls Dottie Hinson and Kit Keller are sisters who compete with each other, even over the little things. With so many young men overseas fighting the Axis, there is a danger that professional baseball will be shut down for the duration of the war. A well-known candy manufacturer, Walter Harvey, contrives the idea to create a professional baseball league for women; both the keep the sport alive and to make a buck or two. Dottie is recruited by a scout for this new league but refuses to go unless her sister is allowed on the team. These women, along with their team-mates, begin a journey that opens up a whole new world, far beyond that of the baseball diamond, lead by team manager, Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up star ruined by alcohol and angered and embarrassed to be the coach of a girl's team.

2.) Pete's Dragon (1977) | Blu-ray Release Date: October 16th, 2012

An orphan is befriended by a dragon, invisible to all but him, who helps him find a home with a lighthouse keeper and his daughter, even as they are pursued by the boy's corrupt foster family and a charlatan medicine man out to destroy the dragon for his own greedy purposes.

Notable Nostalgic Blu-ray Releases Oct. 7th - Oct. 13th

Aliens looking for a way home, invading Russians, and killer plants are in store for the week of October 7th!

1.) E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) | Blu-ray Release Date: October 9th, 2012

An extra-terrestrial is accidentally left behind on Earth and is befriended by a young boy and his brother and sister. As Elliot attempts to help his extra-terrestrial companion contact his home planet so that he might be rescued, the children must elude scientists and government agents determined to apprehend the alien for their own purposes...which results in an adventure greater than any of them could have imagined.

2.) Red Dawn (1984) | Blu-ray Release Date: October 9th, 2012

In the heartland of the United States of America, Russian and Cuban paratroopers begin to drop outside while classes go on in the high school. When the soldiers begin killing everyone in sight, local teens take to the hills to avoid the new totalitarian regime established in their little town and, as we later learn, throughout the world. As country folk, they are well familiarized with survival tactics and hunting, which allows them to carry out sophisticated acts of military sabotage, upsetting the balance of power in town with their guerrilla warfare.

3.) Little Shop of Horrors (1986) | Blu-ray Release Date: October 9th, 2012

The movie version of the hit musical based on the 1960 Roger Corman schlock sci-fi cult classic about a blood-craving plant from outer space that takes up residence in a Skid Row flower shop, under the care of nerdy Seymour Krelborne.

8-Bit "Creation of Mario"

It's been awhile since I've done any 8-bit art, so I thought I would go with an interpretation of one of the world's most famous paintings, Michelangelo's section of the Sistine Chapel titled, "The Creation of Adam," Of course given the context of this site, it's "The Creation of Mario."
