(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 11

Chasing Perfection is back!

Week 10 proved to be a statement game for my Indianapolis Colts, as they cruised to victory over the Dolphins, 27-0 ; proving to be a dominant force in rush defense (held the Dolphins to ZERO yards) and pass defense (Marino only threw for 76 yards against my horrible secondary) once again.

Week 11 is a rematch against the Jets, whom I defeated in Week 8, 19-7.

8-Bit "Creation of Mario"

It's been awhile since I've done any 8-bit art, so I thought I would go with an interpretation of one of the world's most famous paintings, Michelangelo's section of the Sistine Chapel titled, "The Creation of Adam," Of course given the context of this site, it's "The Creation of Mario."

Year One: Complete

I just wanted to take a moment and reflect on the first year of this site -- The ups, the initial doubts, and the overall surprise with the success of this site.

About ten years ago, I started a site (learning about web development at the ripe age of 14!) that was dedicated primarily to retro video games. I had some success, but my writing skills weren't anywhere near the level of some of the sites that were top-notch at the turn of the century. Slowly, but surely, the idea of maintaining a website didn't work for me anymore, and all of my passion for keeping it up went out the window.

Notable Nostalgic Blu-ray Releases Sep. 9 - Sep. 15

2.) The Sound and the Fury (1959) | Blu-ray Release Date: September 11th, 2012

This movie follows the lives and passions of the Compsons: a once-proud Southern family now just barely scraping by both financially and emotionally. Only Jason, the cruel, cold-hearted adopted head of the family, and Quentin, who was abandoned at birth by Caddy, have the fire and the fury needed to put the family back on its feet again.

Updates for August

Since the beginning of the month, I have been recording a lot of game footage that will be popping up all month long on my YouTube account, including more episodes of Chasing Perfection.

And, seeing as today is August 8th, 2012, make sure to check out and for all of the Review A Bad Game Day videos and articles. My craptastic review (both the game and my review. HEY, HEY!!) of Winter Games on the NES will be featured on before it goes live on my YouTube page.

I also have a review of Ben Landis' Adventures in Pixels that I've been meaning to post for quite some time now. Honestly, the album is awesome -- PLUS it comes with a comic that corresponds with the album.

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 10

After an "impressive" victory over the New York Jets in Week 8, my Indianapolis Colts had a bye-week in Week 9. In Week 10, however, it's a rematch between the Colts and Miami Dolphins. Can "Laces Out, Dan" come through this time for his Miami squad, or will the #1 defense (that would be the Colts, thank you very much) in the NFL be too much?

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 8

Chasing Perfection is back in full swing after my little summer vacation from the site. This week in Tecmo Super Bowl, my Indianapolis Colts are facing off against the New York Jets. Going into the midway point of the season, I'm feeling pretty confident that I will be able to pull off the "perfect season" with the Colts.

Impostor Nostalgia - Big Giant Circles

So while listening to the talented Ben Landis (, I came across another artist by the name of Big Giant Circles (, which is the brainchild of video game composer Jimmy Hinson, and his debut album, Impostor Nostalgia.

This wonderful album also features remixes (a lot more electronic/dubstep feel to them) by several other video game composers, and I must say, it is a treat to listen to.

The following is from the Big Giant Circles page:

Impostor Nostalgia is the debut album by video game music composer Big Giant Circles. It is a collection of retro inspired electronic-fused chiptune(ish) music featuring the talents of many amazing people from the video game music community, including C418 (Minecraft), Souleye (VVVVVV), Disasterpeace (FEZ), Alex Brandon (Deus Ex), Mick Gordon (Need for Speed Shift), zircon (Monkey Island 2) and many more. A disgrace to true chip artists everywhere, this album tries hard to disguise it's tracks in varying degrees of chiptune elements to varying degrees of success. The important thing is that the music is saturated in the flavors of not only many classic game soundtracks you know and love, but also the more modern edge of electronic music. And most importantly of all, it's fun :]

SimAnt (SNES) Quick Look

This is the first video for my "Quick Look" series. I decided to start off by looking at the 1993 Super Nintendo release of SimAnt because some people know about it, but I think a lot more don't know of its existence. It's a quirky ant simulation game from Maxis (the creators of Sim City/The Sims) and Imagineer.

This is just the intro movie and tutorial, but I hope you guys enjoy this look at SimAnt!

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 7

After an overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, the Indianapolis Colts gain their sixth win of the season, but my next opponent in Week 7 are the dreaded Buffalo Bills (4-2).

Before starting the game, I checked my team data and found that Jeff George was in BAD condition, so I substituted Jack Trudeau in for him. I also found that Albert Bentley was in bad condition, so I substituted in Ken Clark.

I went outside my comfort zone and played aggressively against the Bills, mainly because they're a cheap team (I even tried to do the "lurch" technique). One thing I learned to do well was to constantly scramble because Bruce Smith will destroy you.

PSX Chrono Trigger Anime Intro

First off, anyone that knows me knows that I absolutely love this game. While I was browsing YouTube, all of the intros I came across seemed to be a little on the low-quality side, so I took it upon myself to upload a version that is a tad more pleasing to the eyes.

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 6

Going into Week 6 of the season, my Indianapolis Colts (5-0) are the lone undefeated team in the game. My next challenge is the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2). Can I squeak by with another victory?

Saturday, May 19, 2012

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 5

Things seemed to be a little rough in last week's game against the Detroit Lions, but can I come out of my slump and crush the Seattle Seahawks in a Week 5 match-up?

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

(Chasing Perfection) Tecmo Super Bowl - Week 4

Two episodes in two days? Wow...

Week 3 features a match-up between the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Raiders. Will the tag-team efforts of Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen be too much for my Colts?

Never mind the 20+ seconds of black at the end; I exported the video and didn't realize it!

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

(Chasing Perfection) TSB Week 2
