The Power Glove Shirt

I just received this gem of a shirt in the mail today from 80stees.com. I must say, it is a snug fit, so if you are looking to purchase one for yourself, consider going a size up (especially if you are on the border between two sizes for t-shirts).

I can't wait to walk around and quote The Wizard with this shirt on. It's so bad.

Super Mario Bros. World Record!

A new Super Mario Bros. world record has been set by Andrew Gardikis, and verified by Speed Demos Archive at an amazing four minutes and fifty-eight seconds!

The amount of skill involved in the speed run is a beauty to witness; as we're talking about extremely precise jumps, incredible knowledge of the game's hit detection on enemies, and use of the "secret" warp zone found in World 4-2.

There has been a lot of praise already for what Andrew has accomplished, but of course, there are those that are questioning the validity of the run already on YouTube (Negativity on YouTube? No way!). I can't say I blame their skepticism, since his run is probably as close to perfection as you can get in regards to the finishing time.

Well kudos to you anyways, Andrew Gardikis, for I am still in awe of your skill!

You can watch his speed run on YouTube.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday season with their families, because I know I sure did.

A couple of my presents consisted of Teen Wolf and Ghostbusters on Blu-ray, and I am excited to do future reviews of these movies on the site. I will more than likely do a review of Teen Wolf first, seeing as how I'm a huge Michael J. Fox fan.

All I have to say is, "what are you looking at dicknose?"

Oh, Joyous Knight.

On the way home last night, I stopped by my local Best Buy and browsed some of the Blu-ray deals they had going on. To my surprise, I came across the Batman Anthology (1989 - 1997) on sale for $39.99. When the set came out, it was $99.99, so I was excited to finally purchase it for the sale price.

When I got to the counter, however, it rang through as $29.99. It was then that I realized that Christmas had come early. To top off this steal, I even had a $5 coupon from the Reward Zone program in my pocket.

Do yourself a favor if you haven't picked up this Blu-ray set yet, and check online at BestBuy.com.

On a side note, with this Christmas season being overwhelmingly busy, I haven't been able to post much content on the site. Starting with the New Year, I'll be posting more episodes of Chasing Perfection, and then moving straight on with Season Two. I do have a few other things up my sleeve as well, but for now, please have a happy holiday season everyone!

Waxing Nostalgic will be back in full force in 2012.

(Chasing Perfection) NBA Jam T.E. Episode 3

Blowing past the Dallas Mavericks was easy. Now I face off against Miami, and their sharpshooter, Glen Rice. Will I advance to 3 - 0, and continue on my way with the hope of achieving a perfect "season" in NBA Jam T.E., or will I succumb to the long-range abilities of Rice?

WaxingNostalgic.net Shirts!

I've been doing t-shirt designs for awhile, even before this site actually, and I thought it'd be cool to set up a lil' shop on spreadshirt.com .

If you like the designs, please go ahead and order a shirt. A portion of each shirt goes directly to this site; which will help me in getting some new equipment to make this site even better.

Chasing Perfection - NBA Jam T.E. SNES

Chasing Perfection is the first series from this site. It deals with attempting perfect seasons in sports games, but on harder difficulty settings.

I'm going to try to achieve a "perfect season" with the Charlotte Hornets in NBA Jam Tournament Edition for the SNES. It's been a long time since I've played this, so we'll see how far I get.

Enjoy!

Alas, The Waxing Nostalgic Video Intro!

Finally Some Luck

I have been going to my local Goodwill store since I moved to my apartment on a fairly regular basis, and every time I go in, I usually just missed an opportunity to grab a bunch of games. I don't know if it is from my lack of overall speed walking to the store, or if it is because of one certain individual that consistently buys all of the games as soon as they are donated.

I am going with the latter.

I did manage to snag six games for $14.94 though, which has me pret-ty, pret-ty happy.

5 Games to Play During Halloween (In No Particular Order)

There have been a lot of great scary/spooky/unsettling games (and some with a lighter approach) that have been released throughout the years.

This is a list of 5 games to play during the Halloween holiday season. Like I mentioned in the headline, they are in no particular order, and are just 5 games that are fun to play. If you want, you can always leave a comment if you have a set of 5 games that you think are great to play during the season too.

Okay. Let's go!

Pardon The Appearance

Sorry if the layout of the site is whacky, or not working. I'm in the process of migrating over to a new design. Hopefully everything will be back and fully operation within the day.

Along with the new design, I'm working hard on video layout designs for possible future video reviews, news, and tutorials.

Thank you for your support!

The Wonder Years is Now Streaming on Netflix!

What seems like a statement released forever ago, The Wonder Years is finally available to stream on Netflix!

One of my absolute favorite shows growing up, and to this day; I'm glad that this show finally has a release other than VHS. I know they have had trouble acquiring the rights to the music that was featured on the show, but I felt like The Wonder Years was never going to be on Netflix, and I'm glad they proved me wrong.

Funny how this show happens to pop up on Netflix after all of their recent customer problems. I guess I'll have to keep my account a little while longer.

Touché...

Recording With an Elgato Video Capture and Your NES

From the research I've done regarding using an analog capture device for my Mac, the Elgato Video Capture device seemed to garner generally positive reviews. It also is not overly expensive (anywhere from about $59 up to $99). I decided to buy one from the Apple flagship store on 5th Avenue here in Manhattan, with the intent of uploading some videos to this blog.

(The Elgato Video Capture!)

When I first got the Elgato Video Capture device for my Mac, I was hard-pressed to find any info on the initial problem I was having of trying to see what I was recording while playing my NES. All of the posts on forums were from years ago, and none of them helped me out at all.

Hopefully I can help out someone who has the same problem, and maybe make their life a little easier while trying to capture their NES footage.

A Small, but Important Haul

While going through my usual motions of video game hunting around NYC, I came across two games that basically made my day.

My first find was a copy of BlaZeon: The Bio-Cyborg Challenge (or people will just refer to it as BlaZeon) for the SNES. A great shmup that was made by Atlus, and often not remembered by much of the gaming population. A shame really.

JCVD FTW

Every few years I get this incredible urge over me, and I can't explain it...

I need to watch a small marathon of Jean-Claude Van Damme movies.

NES: Repairing / Replacing a 72 Pin Connector (blinking screen issue)

It has happened to a large majority of us...

You get excited to play a recent NES game that you had purchased, only to pop it in your system to get bombarded by blinking screens. The reason for the blinking screens is that the pins of the 72 Pin Connector aren't making a proper connection between your game and the NES motherboard anymore.

The pins of your 72 Pin Connector over time will become bent from repeated insertion and removal of NES carts. The pins can also become dirty if you are inserting games that have a fair amount of dust and debris on them.

This is the step-by-step method I have been using for years with continued success.
